Great Quotes

It does not take a majority to prevail... but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men. ~Samuel Adams

Victory over Tiny Tyrants Everywhere

In a surprisingly rational Supreme Court decision, the handgun ban in Washington D.C. has been ruled unconstitutional and the right to bear arms has correctly been interpreted by the Supremes. (Something that still has my head spinning considering their recent decisions; no death penalty for child rapists and terrorists gone wild in civilian courts.) I have been shouting this very thing from the rooftops for years regarding all our local anti-gun nut politicians who refuse to acknowledge the truth about an armed citizenry. To quote Justice "The Man" Scalia,

"...we find that they guarantee the individual right to possess and carry
weapons in case of confrontation. This meaning is strongly confirmed by the
historical background of the Second Amendment. We look to this because it has
always been widely understood that the Second Amendment, like the First and
Fourth Amendments, codified a pre-existing right. The very text of the Second
Amendment implicitly recognizes the pre-existence of the right and declares only
that it "shall not be infringed."

What is brilliant about this analysis is pointing out our right to bear arms is not even given to us by the Constitution. Exactly like our right to liberty, life and the pursuit of happiness, which are not given to us by man but endowed by our Creator, the right to protect that life by force is not negotiable and was never intended to be put in the hands of tiny, whiny dictators. Since it is implied that the right to bear arms (read; right to protect thine life) is endowed as a natural human right and cannot be infringed upon by an overzealous government no matter how many people in wheelchairs they parade in front of the cameras. Other people's tragedies or stupidity have nothing to do with your right to protect your God-given life.

The ban in Chicago has led to bolder criminals perpetrating horrific crimes like a rape in broad daylight on public transportation and other terrors. This city is awash in violence perpetrated on innocents every day. Regular people who pay taxes, have families and are just trying to get to this weekend's barbeque have been forced into the very vulnerable position of having to submit to the whims of gang-banging LOSERS. (No worries though. King Richard and all the city aldermen are surrounded by armed guards so that should help you sleep at night.) No more. I see all of the country going the way of our good friends in Texas. When the majority of people are armed and the criminal population knows it, there is an immediate drop in crime. It is a fact. Read More Guns Less Crime if you don't believe me.

This profound decision has opened the door to law suits all over the country including one filed here in Chicago last week. King Richard's head looks like it's going to explode, which is always good TV. In my husband's words, "It's Daley's Waterloo!" Our vertically-challenged mayor is screaming on every channel, in that very high-pitched Mickey Mouse-like tone, about the "poor souls in wheelchairs crippled for life by gun violence." Again, in my husband's words, "Oh, you mean the poor soul who broke into my house?"

It is only a matter of time before the handgun bans meet their much-anticipated demise, hopefully never to be heard of again. Remember people, an armed society is a free society. An armed homeowner is a protected homeowner. In lieu of the disturbing decisions that came from the Supremes this summer, it is comforting to know that I can still pull the trigger on a child rapist or a terrorist should they threaten my family even though the state won't.
