Great Quotes

It does not take a majority to prevail... but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men. ~Samuel Adams

GOP: Proud of Defeat!

This morning, I got an email from the McCain campaign that had me ready to hurl within 5 minutes. Here's the first couple of lines I could barely get through without gagging.

"McCain Team,
You should all be incredibly proud. I am sincerely grateful to all of our supporters, volunteers and staff for the tireless effort you put into John McCain's and Sarah Palin's Presidential Campaign. Despite the enormous headwinds we encountered, our organization and supporters remained resolute. We fought the good fight. "

It is unbelievable to me that these people want us to be incredibly proud of their ridiculous and mismanaged campaign. Yes, let's be proud that we we're "honorable" losers. Let's be proud that to avoid being called a "RAAAAAAACIST" McCain refused to inform the American people of the Jeremiah Wright, Farrakhan, Ayers, Dohrn, Rezko, AND illegal drug CONNECTIONS. This failure to use the plethora of information available to us in order to WIN an election is nothing to be proud of. Because of this failure, the American public has been hoodwinked...that's right, HOODWINKED by Obama and his opium cloud of mystery. The fog is going to lift in the next few years and the people who figure it out are going to be more than a little annoyed that no one told them this guy is further left than Castro.

I couldn't help myself. I had to respond, and here it is for your reading pleasure.

Dear Mr. Davis,
Don't pat yourselves on the back too hard. You lost the election, and it was needless. You spent way too much energy trying to be "honorable" and not enough energy on trying to win. The American people are going to suffer through at least 2 years of liberalism and socialism run amok and it's YOUR FAULT. So don't tell me how proud you are or how proud I should be. I'm disgusted. Your campaign was a disaster from the beginning and your only good move was finding Sarah Palin...and now you're trashing her. Senator McCain has lost my respect for not standing up for her. She worked her heart out for your campaign and this is the thanks she gets? Her only mistake was signing up with a losing campaign full of people who had no intention of winning. You got outspent, outsmarted and outworked. It's NOTHING to be proud of and I hope none of you ever work for a Republican campaign again! That's what America gets for running a wishy-washy "reach-across-the-aisle" liberal-leaning Senator like John McCain anyway. It was a failed venture from the beginning. Give us a real conservative next time or prepare to LOSE AGAIN. When you reach across the aisle to Democrats, they break your arm. When you walk across party lines...they break your legs. WHEN WILL YOU PEOPLE LEARN???? We're not interested in "getting along" with Democrats. We're interested in advancing CONSERVATISM in our nation. That means DEFEATING liberalism wherever it is. You people have failed conservatism over and over again. It's time to purge this party of all of you who don't understand what our objective is. DEFEATING LIBERALISM. Now please remove me from this mailing list. I have no desire to be reminded of this humiliating defeat on a daily basis.

Sincerely,

Megan Fox

Hi Megan,

I was fascinated to read your response to Mr. Davis. Thanks for sharing it. It shows your passion and your frustration with the Republican Party.

I wonder about other aspects of the G.O.P. failure. There seemed to be plenty of dirty laundry aired (Wright, Ayers, etc.) -- I see you feel not enough of this was done. I wonder if it was less a matter of volume, but rather that this was an ineffective strategy. Maybe voters tuned out the mudslinging. Whether it was true mud or false mud might be irrelevant -- just that people did not listen to it because it wasn't the message they needed to hear.

It seems to me (as a person very new to understanding conservatism) that the Party’s main failure was the inability, or lack of desire, to educate Americans on what conservatism is and what is good about it.

I wonder how many millions of Americans "just don't get it (conservatism)," just like myself when I found your blog. Because I opened my mind to it, I now have a better sense of conservatism. I wonder if most Americans didn't open their minds and didn't ask the questions I asked you.

The Republican Party should have answered these questions before Americans realized these questions needed asking: What is conservatism? What is good about it? What does history show about the effectiveness of conservative policies? What will conservative policies do for our current challenges?

What if the GOP explained to people how less welfare would lead to stronger families? What if they explained how free market principles applied to education would increase the well being of inner city children? These are just two examples of things you said in your blog that John McCain never explained and never discussed.

(We won’t talk right now about WHY he didn’t do that; that’s a separate issue!)

I understand your fear of Obama; you have made it very clear. But what if all of the attack ads were used instead to teach -- as you have done with me. A lot of debate time was used saying Obama is wrong. Fine. You’ve got to say that about your opponent. But I never heard any talk of the principles of conservatism and how, when translated into policy, they help the country.

The Party was basically apologetic about conservatism. They showed no pride and no conviction in conservatism. They spent too much time trying to distance themselves from Bush (due to his low popularity rating right now) and not enough time bringing themselves closer to conservatism and to the American people.

What do you think about this interpretation?

I don’t understand one thing you said to Mr. Davis: “We're not interested in "getting along" with Democrats. We're interested in advancing CONSERVATISM in our nation. That means DEFEATING liberalism wherever it is.” This sounds not even undemocratic but anti-democratic to me, and I know you believe in American democracy. Could you please explain what you meant?

Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff,
You're right on in everything you said. I agree with you that the important thing is communicating to an ignorant public what conservatism IS. And I call them ignorant, because they truly don't know. Many of them are conservative, live conservative lives with conservative values and don't even know it! That is simply ignorance. And it is up to the Republican Party to be, as you put it, more passionate and UNapologetic about our position. You are DEAD ON ACCURATE when you say that the Republicans are aplogists for conservatism....I have NO IDEA WHY. They spend all their time trying to look like Democrats. As if, if they look like conservatives, they are suddenly cold-hearted jerks. And that is what the Democrats have successfully done. They have redefined our postitions! And we let them!

What I mean when I say I'm not interested in getting along with Democrats is exactly that! Are they interested in getting along with us? Do they reach across the aisle to us? No they do not! When they are in power they act like it! They do what they believe in and we should do the same! This does not mean I think we should never work with Democrats! What it means is, we should convince them to WORK WITH US! Why should Ted Kennedy have ever written President Bush's education bill? Why would he do that? Why did Bush allow a liberal to write his education bill? We totally disagree with liberal philosophies on education. Why would we do that? Do you think that Obama is going to let Pat Buchanan write his education bill? I don't think so. The Rs get so excited over trying to show all the Democrats that we're so inclusive that we give away all our power. The last Republican congress was a JOKE. They were in power and yet, they gave into the Dems on a daily basis.

We'll see if the favor is returned. I won't hold my breath.
Good to hear from you!
